How to style a trench coat

Trench coats have been around for a long time and were typically seen as casual work attire but over the years they have become highly adaptable. These coats have been adjusted to stay up to date with the latest trends by modifying their hemline, colour palette and their silhouette. By taking a basic outfit and adding on a trench coat it can give a dramatic flair or sophisticated aspect depending on the look you are going for. In my opinion a quality trench coat is worth the investment as this is a piece that will not go out of style and will last you for many years to come. 

Layering is so important if you want to add depth and dimension to your outfit and a classic trench coat is the perfect way to do this. For me, the most important factor I take into consideration when it comes to putting together an outfit is that it I am comfortable and one of my favourite things about a trench coat is that you can wear a pair of sweatpants and by throwing this over the top you can still have a fashion moment. 

I have created three looks on ways to style a classic trench coat that are easy to recreate. 

Look one is perfect for an everyday basis and in this case you should keep the pieces under the trench coat simple and elevated. 

Look two is perfect for anything in between casual and dressy and I must say trench coats and denim are a match made in heaven. Styling this classic coat with wide leg jeans will help create a timeless autumn look. 

Look three can be recreated by throwing a trench coat over a dress, this so classic and simply effortless.
